It was released in 1996 as the lead single from Adams' seventh studio album "18 til I Die". The song peaked at number 6 in the UK and reached number 52 in the United States. Adams was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance but lost to Beck's "Where It's At". The song is featured at the soundtrack of 1997 film Excess Baggage, starring Alicia Silverstone and Benicio del Toro. The song has appeared on Adams' compilation albums The Best of Me and Anthology.

" Under the Bridge " is a song by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on March 10, 1992  as the second single from the group's fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik . Vocalist Anthony Kiedis wrote the lyrics to express feelings of loneliness and despondency, and to reflect on narcotics and their impact on his life. Kiedis initially did not feel " Under the Bridge " would fit into the Chili Peppers' repertoire and was reluctant to show it to his band mates until producer Rick Rubin implored him to do so.
