In 1987, Guns N' Roses started including the song in their live sets. A live version of the track was initially released on the maxi-single of Welcome to the Jungle the same year. They recorded a studio version in 1990 for the Days of Thunder Soundtrack, which was later slightly modified for the 1991 album Use Your Illusion II (basically discarding the responses in the second verse).

" Under the Bridge " is a song by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on March 10, 1992  as the second single from the group's fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik . Vocalist Anthony Kiedis wrote the lyrics to express feelings of loneliness and despondency, and to reflect on narcotics and their impact on his life. Kiedis initially did not feel " Under the Bridge " would fit into the Chili Peppers' repertoire and was reluctant to show it to his band mates until producer Rick Rubin implored him to do so.
