Bowie claimed the song was inspired by Little Richard, and it maintains the album's theme of a struggle between God and man.. David Bowie - Absolute Beginners (1986)

" Absolute Beginners " was the theme tune to the film of the same name (itself an adaptation of the book Absolute Beginners ), composed and performed by David Bowie. Bowie was good friends with the film's director, Julien Temple (who had worked with him in 1984 on the Jazzin' for Blue Jean short film), and landed both the supporting role of Vendice Partners , and the deal to record the theme tune. " This Is Not America " is a song by jazz fusion band Pat Metheny Group and rock singer David Bowie, taken from the soundtrack for the film The Falcon and the Snowman . The instrumental, written by Metheny and Lyle Mays, is itself a song called " Chris " and was also included on the soundtrack for the film. " This Is Not America " adds additional drums courtesy of a Linn drum machine as well as Bowie's vocal performance. David Bowie & Mick Jagger - Dancing In The Street (1985)

A third hit version was done by Mick Jagger and David Bowie as a duo in 1985, as part of the Live Aid charity movement. The original plan was to perform a track together live, with Bowie performing at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium, until it was realized that the satellite link-up would cause a half-second delay that would make this impossible unless either Bowie or Jagger mimed their contribution, something neither artist was willing to do. The single was one of Bowie's fastest selling to date, entering the UK singles chart at number five on its first week of release, staying at the top of the charts for three weeks. Soon afterwards, the single topped the Billboard Hot 100, Bowie's only single to reach number one on both sides of the Atlantic. In Oceania, it narrowly missed topping the Australian charts, peaking at number two, but peaked at number one for 4 consecutive weeks in New Zealand. Read more about the song
