"Electric Avenue" is an RIAA platinum-certified single by Eddy Grant, from his 1982 album Killer on the Rampage. In the US, it was one of 1983's biggest hits of the year. It was initially released as a single in 1982, and reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. In March 1983, CBS decided to launch the single in United States where it spent five weeks at #2 in Billboard (kept out of the top spot by "Every Breath You Take" by The Police) and hit #1 in Cash Box magazine. The song's lyrics refer to the 1981 Brixton riot, the title referring to Electric Avenue, a market street in the Brixton area of London.

In 1987, Guns N' Roses started including the song in their live sets. A live version of the track was initially released on the maxi-single of Welcome to the Jungle the same year. They recorded a studio version in 1990 for the Days of Thunder Soundtrack , which was later slightly modified for the 1991 album Use Your Illusion II (basically discarding the responses in the second verse).
