" Together Forever " is a song recorded by Rick Astley, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on 18 June 1988. It was Astley's second and final U.S. chart-topper. It reached number 2 in Britain, being denied the top spot by Neighbours star Kylie Minogue with her debut single " I Should Be So Lucky ". "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) " is a song by American eurodance artist Scatman John (real name John Paul Larkin). The song was released in November 1994 as the lead single from his second album Scatman's World. Sales were slow at first, but the song was picked up by many radio stations and eventually became very successful internationally, reaching number one in many parts of Europe and charting in Australia, New Zealand and in Japan. Counter to standard practice, Larkin performed the song live on Top of the Pops. It was also used in the popular Good Humor ice cream advertising campaign of 1995 - 1996. It was written and composed by Heatwave's keyboard player Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones. Patti Austin provides the backing and scat vocals that are heard throughout. The song was written as a coming of age story by Corgan. In the year 1979, Corgan was 12 and this is what he considered his transition into adolescence. The song was popular with critics and fans; Allmusic's Amy Hanson called it a " somewhat surprising hit ". The song was nominated for the Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the Grammy Awards, and won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Alternative Video. Joan Jett saw Arrows perform " I Love Rock 'n' Roll " on their weekly UK television series Arrows when she was touring England with The Runaways in 1976. She first recorded the song in 1979 with two of the Sex Pistols: Steve Jones and Paul Cook. This first version was released on vinyl in 1979 on Vertigo records as a B-side to " You Don't Own Me ". In 1981, Jett re-recorded the song, this time with her band, The Blackhearts. This recording became a U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single for seven weeks. The Irish boyband Boyzone recorded a cover version for the 1999 Comic Relief telethon, shortening the title to " When The Going Gets Tough ". Their version reached number #1 on the UK Singles Chart. English vocal-and-synth duo Soft Cell became aware of the song through its status as a UK " Northern Soul " hit, and recorded a drastically different arrangement in 1981. The Soft Cell recording featured a slower tempo than Jones' version, and was in the key of G rather than the original C to match Marc Almond's lower voice. Synthesizers and rhythm machines replaced the original's guitars, bass, drums, and horns. Soft Cell's version was recorded in a day and a half with Almond's first vocal take being used on the record. American pop singer Madonna released a cover version of the song in March 2000 to promote the soundtrack to her film The Next Best Thing (2000), with the song being serviced to radio on February 2. Her cover is much shorter than the original (it contains only the beginning of the first verse and all of the second and sixth verses) and was recorded as a dance-pop song. It was co-produced by Madonna and William Orbit, after Rupert Everett (Madonna's co-star in The Next Best Thing ) had convinced her to cover the song for the film's soundtrack. " One " is a song by the Irish rock band U2. It is the third track from their 1991 album Achtung Baby , and it was released as the record's third single in March 1992. During the album's recording sessions at Hansa Studios in Berlin, conflict arose between the band members over the direction of U2's sound and the quality of their material. Tensions almost prompted the band to break up until they achieved a breakthrough with the improvisation of " One "; the song was written after the band members were inspired by a chord progression that guitarist The Edge was playing in the studio. The lyrics, written by lead singer Bono, were inspired by the band members' fractured relationships and the German reunification. The single charted higher than any of the singles released by his former band The Smiths, reaching number five in the UK Singles Chart. It charted at #30 in The Netherlands and at #8 in New Zealand. The lead track was featured on Morrissey's debut album Viva Hate and the compilation album Bona Drag ; the latter of which also featured the B-side " Hairdresser on Fire ".
